NYNN (New Year, New Novel)

As anyone with school-aged children knows, there are exactly 14.6 minutes between Halloween and Christmas. This makes the timing of NaNoWriMo inconvenient at best. That is the main reason I have decided to do my own thing in January instead.

I am calling it “New Year, New Novel” or “NYNN”. I am not sure if that should be pronounced to rhyme with “Lynn” or like the number “nine.” It is spelled like Lynn, but I prefer the other pronunciation. I guess it doesn’t matter if I am the only one saying it.

My goal is to write every day (or nearly so) and end with a complete narrative rather than a certain word count. Or maybe I will set myself a low daily word count, just as a kickstart. It’s easier to keep writing than to start.

It’s not just about establishing the writing habit; it’s about following through on creating a single full story. I have never won NaNoWriMo because word count doesn’t motivate me. Finishing something I start sounds like enough challenge. And I don’t have the time or stamina to not end up with at least a semi-usable draft.

All y’all are invited, of course. If there’s interest, I will see what I can do to facilitate communication for the sake of mutual support.
