My degree is in Geography, but I focused my classwork around urban planning and resource management. I could go on about this at great length, but I will just give you the elevator pitch: walkable, mixed-use communities with green spaces and well-connected mass transit.
On the other hand, I have an aversion to overly planned towns, cities, and “communities”. If you want to grate on my nerves, give me places that are uniform in design, but trying (and failing) to look traditional and organic, or mixed types/styles of housing with a tacked on strip mall (no matter how fancy).
I do love an experimental design, but I will take practical solutions over the shiny, futuristic stuff drawn out of sci-fi. And I will take livability over aesthetics any day of the week.
