NYNN: Prewrite October – The Mia Experiment (October is about worldbuilding. There’s the link, right upfront. I’m not going to make you read my rambling to find it. I hope the resources there serve you well. )
I have decided to spend October, November, and December on my prewriting for NYNN. October is about worldbuilding. November will be about Characters. December will be Plotapalooza– for the actual story part of the story. I hope to provide some valuable resources and things to think about on each of the pages. I have included a comment section on each one to be used as a makeshift forum.
Three months might seem like an awful lot of prep time for a writing challenge, but there are no hard limits on how much to do in what period of time. I want to take it at a relaxed pace. I take NYNN seriously, but I try to keep in mind that I want to enjoy the process, not stress myself out over it. I just want to set some goals for each month to be ready to hit the ground running on January 1.
The October page has free resources and links to various other tools and toys you might use in your worldbuilding adventure. I will be adding more over the next few days. I also have a couple of worldbuilding books on the way from Amazon, as well as a fun one that I already had on hand. They are all linked on the October page if you want to have a look. I will do a proper review of all three in the near future.
I am not waiting for books to get started though. I am using Obsidian as my novel planning tool, so I am already fleshing out my world in there. I want to draw a really good map of at least the area where my story takes place. There are not going to be any epic quests across the whole world in my novel. I look forward to sharing more about it in the near future, pictures and all.
