Prompt: Notable June 14

What notable things happened today?

I went to my first protest today. It felt really uplifting to be out with hundreds of other people peacefully exercising our First Amendment rights. It rained on us for the last hour we were there, but that had little impact on the size of the crowd.

There also were a small number of counter protesters who mostly seemed affiliated with a local Baptist church. At the end, a couple of the teens came across the street that divided the protest from the counterprotest in order to pass out cards for their church. I took a card because it was a kindness I could extend to those kids, even if I am suspicious of political churches.

I’m glad I went, even though it was a last minute decision. And I really needed the emotional lift for reasons I will outline elsewhere in this blog-journal-thing later. It was good to be with other people and to feel like I was part of something more than the train wreck that is my life.
