November Writing

For many years, I attempted and failed NaNoWriMo. I am happy to say that I am back at it this year, even though the organization behind that event has gone belly up, and this year is looking more promising.

I had originally thought I would write flash fiction every day this month, but last night I had a flash of inspiration: I am going to write stories based on the ones I’ve made up on the fly at bedtime for my son over the last several years.

And that’s exactly what I began today. I am now almost 1300 words into a Space Captain Cat story, and they haven’t even set off on their mission yet.

I’m not setting word count goals. I’m setting a goal to write out one or two stories a week. I might edit as I go. That’s just a habit— I don’t edit immediately after writing, but I backtrack a few days and have a new look at it to fix glaring issues and to tighten up the prose.

And now for something completely different…

We’re really on the fast slide towards 2026 now. November and December tend to be wildly hectic. That has been a factor in my NaNoFailure most years. I do have a lot of thoughts about 2025 and wishes for 2026 that I hope to bring here over these last two months of the year. Let’s say that I am speaking/writing that into being.

Let’s wind it down in style.
