Thursday Round-Up

I wish that title were a little jazzier. I will think about it. It’s hard to keep it short and snappy when the goal is to hit a whole bunch of topics briefly. But you didn’t come here to read me waffling on the title. You’re here for the experiment, right? Step right this way…

My day… NOTHING AT ALL LIKE THIS. It’s cold here, man.

I have decided to do 10 to 12 30-day challenges throughout 2025. I had that idea in the back of my mind when I started this blog, and now that change is starting to manifest in my life, I am prepared to move forward with that, in addition to posting about my journey. I will also keep posting prompt responses and random thoughts. I plan to start with blogging every day during January. I might cheat and schedule some posts, so perhaps I should say I intend to release a post every day in January.

I have decided to commit myself to learning sales and marketing and making myself actually do it in 2025. Those seem like skills that are in demand, but more importantly, they are incredibly useful for the self-employed. I need to step up my self-employment game for several reasons, not the least of which is that I need enough money to live on. I am trying a few different things right now, with varying degrees of complete failure. I know I can turn that around.

We are also planning a year-long expense-reduction challenge, a No-Buy Year. The plan is pretty simple: we still get to buy necessities, of course, and gifts for other people for specific occasions. The frivolous and unnecessary spending needs to stop for many, many reasons, not the least of which is that our income does not meet our expenses. I do not foresee any problems sticking to this myself because I am an involuntary simplicity veteran. Doing it on purpose should be a breeze.

I expect massive lifestyle changes beyond these things in the coming year, but mostly the good kind of changes. I am sure there will be unforeseen problems, but I feel like I’m going in the right direction for a change.
