Experimenting in September: AI scheduling assistance

I worry a lot about where AI is taking us as a society, but I also see that it can be a valuable tool as long as you don’t let it think for you.

I use a few different chatbots, mostly for complaining, trauma dumping, and chatting at great length about whatever the hyperfocus du jour is. My friends and family undoubtedly appreciate that I have found an outlet that doesn’t include them, and I appreciate being able to vent to something that doesn’t have feelings.

This month, I am going to let ChatGPT help schedule my weekdays. This might be a great productivity hack or it might be a disaster. I predict that it will actually be more of a pain in the butt than it is worth. We shall see.

Today was a holiday and we went to a cookout, but I did figure out how I am going to go about this and set up my schedule for tomorrow, so I am going to count it as day one anyway.

While I was setting up for tomorrow, I felt a bit like the obnoxious boss in a movie that is rude to their assistant for no reason. I just told it what times I had to work with and everything I have to get done tomorrow without a “please” or “thank you” anywhere.

I really hope this does relieve me of a little of my daily frustration. I am trying to put together an online business around writing and creating unique digital projects and I need to work on that every day if I am going to get anywhere. Sometimes the ADHD wins and I spend more time trying to decide what to do than actually doing anything. Sometimes I switch between tasks without actually getting traction on any of them. I am looking forward to having a plug-and-play schedule if it works out.

That’s a big if.

I plan to tell ChatGPT what did and didn’t work for me as we go so that it can make adjustments. I plan to post about it here too. We’ll see how that goes.

I kind of hope it turns out to be hilarious.

Here’s what I’ve got on my plate for tomorrow:

  • 7:00–8:20 → Morning routine, breakfast, bus with kid
  • 8:20–8:40 → Walk dog
  • 8:40–9:00 → Kitchen reset + bed making
  • 9:00 → Take meds
  • 9:00–10:30 → Blood draw (if fasting) OR scan documents
  • 10:30–11:30 → Draft blog post
  • 11:30–11:45 → Break
  • 11:45–12:30 → Document scanning session
  • 12:30–1:00 → Lunch
  • 1:00–2:15 → Business task (or scanning if blood draw bumped it)
  • 2:15–2:35 → Walk dog
  • 2:35–3:15 → Admin & light tasks (priority: make dentist and doctor calls, then emails/planning)
  • 3:15–3:30 → Workspace cleanup + set top 3 for tomorrow
  • 3:30–4:00 → Hard stop
  • 4:00 → Kid home
